If we've learned anything from the COVID-19 pandemic, it's that it is very useful to have some kind of place in your home that can be used as a sort of office, even if that means using what used to be a spare bedroom and transforming it into a home office.
Home offices can be sometimes a bit more difficult when it comes to design -- you're not only designing in terms of what looks good and what is comfortable for everyday use but also what makes sense from the perspective of someone trying to actually get some work done in the office.
At Brush & Roll Painting, we have nearly 30 years of experience painting interior spaces in Omaha. We strive to ensure a smooth and flawless finish that can breathe new life into any space.
In this article, we will explore various tips and tricks to optimize your home office, from choosing the right desk to incorporating vibrant paint colors that energize your workspace. Whether you're looking to create a more functional environment or simply want to refresh the look of your office, our insights will guide you through the process.
1. Make The Desk A Stand Or Sit Desk
In today's environment, it's more important than ever that we not spend too much time sitting in a chair, and yet with as much of the work that we tend to do on the computer, it's difficult to avoid it -- except if we make use of what's called a standing desk.
A standing desk allows one to operate a computer and make use of the desk in other ways while still standing up and to do so comfortably -- but what if you don't want to be standing at the desk all of the time?
That is precisely where a convertible standing and sitting desks come in -- it's one desk, but you can convert it from a sitting desk to a standing desk and back whenever you need -- meaning if you want to take a break from standing, you can do so.
2. Wall Partitions To Split Rooms
Sometimes you're going to want to take an existing room and add your home office to that room -- but splitting the room with a wall will just make it into two separate rooms, which cuts down on your available overall living space.
Taking wall partitions, on the other hand, will allow you to still have access to the home office while not entirely removing your ability to use the rest of the room or even to see the rest of the room should you want to do so.
You can make even a normal room look like two rooms that are open concept and flow together well just by adding a wall partition -- you can work when you need to work and also use the room for its intended purpose the rest of the time.
3. Fitted To Measure Furniture
Furniture can be a bit of a bear when it comes to making your home office just right for you, as you are going to have a certain amount of space that you can fill with the furniture and you don't want to get anything that is overly small and of course nothing that would take up too much space.
Enter fitted to measure furniture -- it is specifically designed to provide the space that you are in -- so you can have a desk that goes from one side of the room to the other without having a massive gap between the desk and the wall.
Even though fitted to measure furniture can be a bit pricier than your standard kind of furniture that you would find at a box store -- it can be well worth it if you're planning on making use of your home office on a regular basis.
4. Add Paint Color To Add Energy
If you follow color theory at all, you will see that you don't have to have bland colors in your home office -- the opposite is true, in fact.
It's far better for you have more bold and exciting colors -- starting on the walls and then even going all the way up to the ceiling, which certainly doesn't have to be white or gray.
A ceiling can in fact be just about any color you want it to be, including pink if that so suits your need -- and if it happens to be the color that is going to make your home office burst with life then it's the one you should use.
5. Put Your Printer Out Of Reach
Though it might sound entirely counter-intuitive to put your printer in a place where you won't be able to reach it, it actually makes sense from the point of view of keeping you from staying in the same position for too long of a time.
Just think -- every time you print something out, it will be an opportunity for you to move away from your immediate desk area to retrieve the thing that you have printed -- and get a chance to stretch your legs if you were just sitting and even just get a few steps in if you have a standing desk.
