When your home is starting to get that aged look and you want to freshen it up, you may be wondering if it's even possible to paint vinyl siding in Omaha, NE.

The first instinct that a person might have is that of course it would not be possible to do so, because the whole point of vinyl siding is that it is meant to replace the painting process, right?

The truth is, however, that vinyl siding does not have to be entirely removed and replaced with new vinyl siding, as would possibly be expected, but rather it most certainly be painted -- and it can look superb if you follow some simple advice.

Don't Paint Vinyl Siding That's Dirty!

It might sound patently obvious, but if you start painting vinyl siding that is dirty, you're going to have a bad time as the popular online saying goes.

Possibly the easiest thing that you can do to clean your vinyl siding is to get ahold of a pressure washer and to make use of it to clean the siding

A pressure washer takes simple water and expels it at a great force, which does a lot more good than you might realize.

If you have never done so, do yourself a favor and do a video search (on your favorite video sharing platform) for pressure washing, and you will see that simple washing can take away years of dirt from places that need to be washed.

All this being the case, you have to be very careful when using a pressure washer when cleaning your vinyl siding as improper use or using too strong of a setting can actually damage your vinyl siding.

If you do not have the access to a pressure washer, hope is not lost as you can also clean vinyl siding with a mixture of white vinegar and water -- yes, the very same white vinegar that you can find in your kitchen can clean the side of your house.

You can also mix together bleach, water, and household cleaners to create an even stronger vinyl siding cleaner

Acrylic Paint is Your Friend

When you are actually ready to paint your home, choose one hundred percent acrylic paint.

As odd as it might seem, you don't want to use paintbrushes to paint vinyl siding

Vinyl siding is best painted with a spray gun, and as with most paint jobs related to your home exterior and even interior, two coats of paint are recommended -- and this is not just a ploy that paint companies have to get you to buy more paint.

Maintenance Depends on Paint Quality

Since the whole idea of vinyl siding, or at least one of the selling points of it is that it requires very little maintenance, once you paint your vinyl siding there will of course be some maintenance required

The amount of maintenance is entirely tied to the quality and type of paint that you choose.

As is often the case, there are some paints that are more suited to being cleaned than others, and these are usually labeled clearly so that you recognize them

According to most home paint experts, a good vinyl paint job will last as long as ten years.
